About Long & Away

Long & Away, a consort of viols, was founded in 2005 by four young professional viol players. With a command of the repertoire that spans the 15th-century Franco-Flemish tradition to 17th century English masters, the consort has performed at the Longy School of Music, Harvard University’s Memorial Church, New England Viola da Gamba Society workshops and as part of the Gamba Gamut, a Boston Early Music Festival Fringe event. Long & Away has enjoyed collaborations with the English consort Seven Times Salt and the vocal ensemble Sprezzatura. The ensemble has also premiered new compositions for viol consort by New England area composers. The name Long & Away is a reference to the music of Orlando Gibbons, a beloved composer of English viol consort repertoire.
